Sinn Fein, Ireland’s main opposition party, announced Friday that it will boycott this year’s St. Patrick’s Day celebrations at the White House in protest of US President Donald Trump’s position on the Israel-Gaza conflict, Anadolu news agency reported.
I love the message and solidarity, however Sinn Fein were not invited to the White House to celebrate St. Pat’s.
Yeah, seems like they would not be welcome there regardless. Ever since Sean Bean caused all that trouble for President H. Ford.
Sinn Fein does have a storied past, and they’re still two completely different parties in Northern Ireland and Ireland respectively.
To be fair, Sean Bean was in a splinter group of the IRA, so not technically even N Ireland Sinn Fein.
I thought it was more of a wink and a nod back then as the Stickies and Provos were still divying up members. I didn’t live during the troubles so I can’t really say with any authority tho. I’ll definitely do more reading on it, thanks for the context.
