To give an example of what I’m thinking of…Kingdom of Loathing, Lioden, Flight Rising.
What are some others? I’m sure there’s entire genres of browser-based games I’ve missed.
Oh boy, unfortunately most Flash games aren’t playable on the web yet, else I’d be name-dropping like 200 games.
Everyone has to play Sonny 2 at some point. It’s a genuine masterpiece of turn based RPGs despite being a 14 year old flash game. The atmosphere is amazing. The music is banging. The build variety is immense.
All the blue elephant games like This is the only level and Achievement Unlocked are also classics. Many of them don’t work on Ruffle yet though.
No-one has to die is a story-driven choose your own adventure that’s surprisingly good.
I could go on and on but for a start you should all try these!
You can use ruffle to play flash games. ActionScript 2 support is pretty good. ActionScript 3 is kinda hit or miss.
Yeah, the links I’ve posted are Ruffle-powered.
Oh, man. I haven’t heard of Kingdom of Loathing in for ever . I recall grinding the hell out of it back when, and getting all the way to the final stand-off with the big bad and… there was a placeholder. So, I messaged the dev and he all but told me to spend some time in the real world, the final boss wasn’t ready yet, wtf was I doing speedrunning? 🤪😅
Try out the new PC games for kingdom of loathing. There’s a fun western and a noir based one. Same humor and better gameplay
Paper.io is fantastic

I’m sorry for taking away all of your free time.
Different genres I guess but
Simon Tatham Puzzle Collection
Stitches (with links to more games, don’t think there’s a central site)
I love Simon Tatham’s puzzles

Don’t wait in town.
Survive.IO is the only one I have bookmarked. It’s basically top-down, 2D PUBG.
I have also liked almost everything on AdultSwim.com; but it’s been a long time since I’ve been there. My favorite was 5 Minutes to Kill Yourself.
There’s a browser based version of Oregon Trail I’ve played a fair amount of
the Vex series are pretty good parkour/platformers that even had their own level builder
red ball
one fun one was the helicopter one where you move blocks into positions that I forget the name of
I forget the exact name of the series, it’s Flight or I Can Fly or something like that. The one with the penguin where you upgrade your glider and try to destroy an iceberg
A pretty good one with a rocket you upgrade and eventually get to Mars that’s fun
Sorry I forget the names, it’s been a while. Most probably aren’t even playable anymore unfortunately
Not a game but still a good time killer learning to type faster and faster https://www.keybr.com/
Your all time top speed beats 99.42% of all other people.
Your all time average speed beats 95.57% of all other people.
Do not many people use this website, or is 105 wpm top speed and 87 wpm average speed actually that crazy? I just learned to type like this in high school.
As far as I understand it, most folks growing up these days do everything on their smart phones or tablets. Like, teachers sometimes have literally gotten entire essays written on a phone. (I would go crazy trying to do that…but people make do with the tech they’re given when young, and get good at it.)
So, for some segment of the population–yeah, touch-typing on a physical keyboard is no longer a thing. And even when I was young, people getting truly good at it 80+ wpm was pretty rare. You had to be into writing, either as a hobby, or as an unavoidable part of your job.
Universal Paperclips: https://www.decisionproblem.com/paperclips/
It’s a semi-idle clicker game, ala Cookie Clicker, but a bit more interactive and very cool. There is a definitive end to it which is nice for this type of game.
Looks like someone else already got to this before I did, but +1 to trying it out.
It’s a predecessor of Sunless Sea, Sunless Skies and Mask of the Rose.
Lots of grinding in the later game, but still highly recommended because of the fantastic text quality. I played it for almost a year.
I’ll go for something more simple, but that you still can spend hours on.
Tetris. Jstris if you want a minimalistic version and Tetr.io if you want something more polished.
I also like to play minesweeper, minesweeper.online is the best one I’ve found. I especially like the no-guessing mode which makes the game a lot less frustrating.
In this vein, sudokuslam.com is cool too
There’s:
-
skribbl.io it’s a draw and guess game, kinda like charades.
-
Transformice was also pretty fun. They have a steam version of the game now, I don’t know if they still have a browser port though.
-
civclicker a cookie clicker like game about creating your own antique empire https://civclicker.sourceforge.net/
slither.io 🐍 Become the longest snek in the multiplayer pit by tripping up other players and feasting on the dead – until the inevitable moment when the same happens to you. Nothing like thinking you’re the very biggest, only to discover you’ve slowly been completely encircled by a much, much bigger snake and no amount of coiling is going to change the outcome.
