Classic Americans look at their own shitty healthcare system and, instead of fixing it, try to make everyone else’s worse.

Because of limits on prescription drug price negotiations in the U.S., politicians south of the border have argued their health-care systems should simply buy more drugs from Canada.

A 2021 report by the Rand Corporation found that Canadian prices were just 46 per cent of those in the United States because Ottawa limits how much drugmakers can charge for medicines. The U.S. lets the free market dictate drug prices.

Literally. We could simply set our own identical price controls.

The juxtaposition of those two paragraphs is pretty funny. The first one says there’s limits on negotiations. The second one says the free market dictates drug prices. Those two are mutually exclusive.

That’s the US medical system for ya.

Only so our corporations can metastasize all over you and privatize your nation’s generated value for themselves so they can build support support mega yachts for their support mega yachts that support their mega-mega yachts.

If it makes you feel better, it just makes the wealthy oppressors of most Americans more powerful. But agreed, my country is the baddie.

Why should we be subsidizing your garbage industry? Negotiate it yourself. Florida alone has half the population of the entirety of Canada.

Even if only Florida tried to negotiate, it would get similar prices to what Canada achieves.

IIRC the US has laws preventing procurement of medications overseas where prices could be lower due to whatever price control structures are in place.
