  • I’m actually about to get ICL surgery to correct mine in July @ 35 years old. Pretty stoked to not have to use glasses anymore. Though from what I’ve been told, it will make those of us who get ICLs more susceptible to early cataracts (like 60 years old or so versus 75, as we all will eventually get cataracts if we live long enough), and I’ll need a second surgery at that point for better lenses. But if I’m going to eventually need that surgery anyway to remove a cataract, then what’s it matter?

  • My favorite thing when I visited SW Germany was Fleishkase (I’ve also heard it referred to as Leberkase), and I’ve been unable to find it anywhere here in the states. I ate it at least once a week, grilled on a crusty bread with mustard from a Barbarossa bakery, and anywhere I traveled that had it on the menu I tried it (shoutout to Trier for having my favorit!)

I’ve been meaning to look into how difficult it is to make. I’ve been dreaming about it for like 2 years now 😭

Edit: Also, yes, kasespaetzle is next level fantastic. That I can kind of get at the Commissary on most military bases though, because us Americans want access to all the neat shit we get used to while serving overseas. However, while it’s yummy, it’s also prepackaged noodles just-add-water type shit at the Commissary, and not half as good as what I had over in Germany. Does scratch the itch when I’m craving it though!

  • It’s very telling how many Texans are in this thread with affirmative responses.

As someone who lives in Texas, I agree. I’m not from here, military transplant, but I did set it to my “permanent state” specifically so I could vote here. If I’m being forced to live here, might as well do my part to try and change the fuckery going on.

However, the absolute second that the ink on my DD214 is dry, I will NEVER set foot in this state again. Not purposefully anyhow.

It sucks, because Austin, SATX, and my personal favey fave: Houston, are all fucking awesome cities. But they’re not worth it. Not worth it to see how much Texans with money prioritize the dehumanization of immigrants, women, and the LGBTQ+ community.

If money was no object, I’ve always been smitten with the idea of Canada. I like much cooler weather than Texas provides, and I want nation-wide socialized Healthcare. Surprisingly difficult to immigrate too from what I’ve seen on a cursory glance though.

  • I have some kinda mutt who was abandoned by his owner (he was microchipped and we reached out saying we had him and they answered back telling us what a good dog he is and how much joy he’ll bring us 🙄)

His original name was Kobe, but neither my husband nor I are basketball fans, so I changed it to “Korbie”, as short for Korbel, my favorite cheap fake champagne.

Anyhow, he now gets referred to as “Korbie Porgie Pudding and Pie” or “Korbelicious” (Sung to the tune of “Fergielicious” of course!)

  • Suuuuper late to the game, but a few weeks ago my husband talked me into playing Detroit: Become Human (I shy away from Sci Fi games so I knew nothing about it/was hesitant to play).

Holy shit. That may have been some of the best fucking writing I’ve ever seen in a game.

It also got me really turned on to those butterfly effect/QTE games! I finished Little Hope by the Dark Pictures Anthology in one night (last Friday), and I’m in the middle of Man of Medan right now. The writing isn’t as good, but they’re still Hella fun and quirky!

If anyone else has any reccs for the Butterfly effect/QTE style games, I’m mad obsessed enough and will most definitely play it!
