I’m all for countries vowing not to use nuclear weapons first, but what is the point of a treaty? If a country does use nuclear weapons first, I think other countries are going to be less concerned about breaking the treaty and more concerned about WW3 and Armageddon. And given that both the US and Russia have shown scant regard for treaties in recent years with major changes to policy, surely the treaty wouldn’t be worth the paper it’s printed on.
I believe “whipper snipper” is a West Island term.
Interesting word choices: “weedwacking” is American, but “petrol” is British. Is Kiwi speak a mix of the two plus the indigenous language?
Love to Jacinda!
I grew up on Jet Fighter 2, so I’m also curious about modern versions.
“It’s all about the big, 'bout the big snow shovel.”
Whether mandatory voting is bad or not, certainly it’s way better than the American situation, where one particular party’s strategy to win elections is to discourage and actively prevent people from voting. In Australia, every political party seeks to win by collecting votes.

Wow, I think you win this game. Sorry to hear all that. Thank you for what you and your family are going through for this poor girl, her mother, and us all.
Not sure if “felling” is a typo or not, as it seems appropriate…
They’re known as “moon boots”. Give it a space theme!
I’ve heard this in Australia but nowhere else. Is this Australian slang, or does somewhere else use it too?
Paywall.
Out of curiosity, how can there be 30 upvotes on a paywalled article? Do they all have WSJ subscriptions?
