Just to fully expound on what you’re saying, it was a rootkit, literally malware.

The annual cycle is quite nice from a buyer’s perspective too, when I need a new phone I’ve got a reasonable idea that Google aren’t going to release a new device in a couple of months and leave me feeling shafted.
Why can’t they just make it a gTLD?
Certainly it could be, I would like to see some proper study done into it, but it’s probably borderline impossible.
Conversely patents are somewhat unobtainable by the average Joe, I think I saw it costing somewhere in the region of 25-50k to patent something by the time you factor in the cost of a decent patent lawyer.
Maybe a 10-15 year patent period with lower barrier to entry would be a good thing.
I’m in the same position as you. From what I gather you can still transfer files, I’m still buying a kobo when my voyage bites the dust.
Isn’t that pretty much how parents work already? They’re extensible, sure, but only up to 20 years total. Not only that but you’re forced to document it too.
If I remember correctly the Skype for business still identified as communicator on the about page.
If I’m not having a whoosh moment, the fact they have bases in Ireland and the Netherlands very much sounds like they’re operating a Double Irish Dutch Sandwich.
A life sentence in the UK is distinct from a whole life order. Usually 25-30 years. The 12 year minimum is the length of time before he would be entitled to parole.
Locost 7 is a generic name for replica Lotus/Caterham 7 type cars that are built by people in garages, there’s no centralised body beyond “The Book” the original design came from. As far as I’m aware the book’s author has defended the design in court as being too generic to be protectable (which presumably precludes their design being used as a basis to prosecute anyone building something similar).
Most of the cars are built custom to the donor vehicle, taking the original design as a basis, there’s 100s of variations online with drawings - none of them are going to be protectable and no-one’s really tried in the 30 odd years since the book came out. No-one’s published anything with a libre license, I’m not sure if there’d be any point.
Where are the EFF fighting this?
There are definitely open source-ish options. Google locost 7
English isn’t prescriptive, if enough people use it the wrong way then it becomes the right way.
We should make it a thing. Let’s regroup in a fortweek and see how we’re getting on.
Hahah, no doubt, while popping in and out of the outage call repeating the phrases “can I get an update?”, " Is there an ETA on recovery?" and “We need to get this back online”
I’d imagine chip design is sufficiently complex that you could both be competent and not have a fucking clue what’s causing this. A recall is bound to be cheaper than the impact this is going to have on customer trust. Not only are they the lower performance chips, they’re buggy lower performance chips.
Have you never worked in corporate IT or something? Of course we should blame Crowdstrike, that way we don’t get a sev 1 on our scorecard.
And ephemeral unless you specifically wanted to save something. Since I got win 11 at work instead of disappearing on reboot the next time I open it I get 50 fucking notepad instances and I can’t find the actual doc that would’ve been useful to save because its in a background tab. Fuck this shit.
