Reminds me of when I joined some classmates to the supermarket. We got kicked out while waiting in line because they didn’t want middleschoolers there because we’re all thieves anyways. So most of the group walked out without paying.

It was interesting how random people came to talk to you and were really trying to get to know you. I don’t think that would work in modern day internet.
I knew they were around because at times I randomly remembered my ICQ number and I tried logging in, but they won’t let you if you forgot your password.
I don’t include the rider. More confusing are stairs and crosswalks: where do they start and end? Often, there is no crosswalk on the picture but you have to select other road markings to continue. So it doesn’t really matter.
Out of the ones I’ve tried (Jerboa, Connect, Thunder), I think Thunder is best (after a little config) : https://github.com/thunder-app/thunder/releases
People coming over for work/business: expats.
Unemployed people migrating to look for a better life or job: (im)migrants.
That’s how I understood it.
I’m kind of in between. I’m not an expat, but immigrant doesn’t sound right neither. I just call myself a foreigner.
It’s strange how I’ve seen this exact claim before. How many expats do you know? I know a bunch of expats and there are quite a few Asian people in the expat community.
Not at all :) But I suppose it was obvious I was a tourist
Yes, I didn’t spend a lot of time in Germany but it happened several times. I traveled by train and they claim the train stations are where people do their business
It would at least help if they stop assuming the only reason a foreigner from the free west would come through Germany is to sell weed.
They make you empty your pockets and pat you down.
They look like gangsters claiming to be police, don’t even show a badge until you ask for it, they want all your stuff, like your wallet, to search through it.
At least it takes away one reason for undercover German police to annoy foreigners with their “random” drug tests
It happened before: computers, internet, smartphones, other machines were invented, productivity has only give up. And yet, we’re still working 8 hours per day (and earning less than before).
AI will get people fired. More people need work = lower salaries, more profit.
It would be great if we could all just work less, but they won’t let that happen.
I’d say site blocking is SearXNG’s main selling point. (I switched when it got recommended to me on Lemmy :-).) Blocking just a few annoyances (Amazon, Pinterest, etc) make the search results so much better and relevant.
Also, Google is plagued by censorship.
It’s a reoccurring internet discussion you can google. The rest of the world thinks Americans wear shoes inside, even on their beds, because that’s what we see in US movies/series, and Americans always deny they’d ever do such a thing.
One thing that’s different out that there is no such thing as not being able to pay for health insurance. You are required by law to be insured. This also means the government mostly covers it for you if you can’t.
You may have to pay out of pocket for the first few hundred euros when something happens, but insurance covers the rest. There’s no way a person’s life savings would disappear overnight because of a medical issue. I’d rather die than pay what I sacrificed 30+ years to save up for.
It sucks to go through “prove you are human” screens that seem to time out half the time. Even worse when they put RSS feeds behind this Cloudflare wall
My colleagues also like to shun me, which shouldn’t be a problem working remotely, but all the people who come to the office and have connections just got their promotions. Working hard and being good at your job are just not as important as being loud and knowing people. I just had a short holiday and I just can’t get my motivation to work anymore since I’m back.
So I’ll just keep slacking off and look for other opportunities in the meantime or maybe they’ll fire me at some point and I’ll have some time to travel or something.
Because i live in an apartment building. Rich folks with a house don’t want their package stolen or rained on
If there’s a delivery, they usually call so you have time to get dressed and get down (because it’s always easily in the morning). That’s normal for package delivery, at least. I’ve never ordered food though.
Where would you come across a bull though? I’ve never seen one in a field with cows.
