  • They meddled with the Islamic countries beyond what befalls them, and they helped the worst of the extremists come out in the instability they helped create.

Besides, being some of the worst offenders on climate pollution per capita by far and making someone else’s homes burn to global warming first was bound to create these refugees whether those ecuador countries were stable and tried to counter the local symptoms or not. I’m not saying advancing the comfort of human living is a sin or anything zealous like that. All I’m saying is that glossing over personal and corporate consumption while neglecting apt measures in favor of decoy policies and trying to reflect the blame somewhere else was bound to have the problem become bigger and more apparent.

They reap what they have sown over the last few decades. Trying to put up a gunship and gunboat barrier over Greece while bribing the corrupt Turkish president to keep over millions of Syrian refugees, let aside others flooding illegally in groups of hundreds from Afganistan, Pakistan, Lebanon, etc. will work so far to keep the facade on.

Rising fascism in Europe is not a defense against the religious extremists. It is due to desire for continuity of personal comfort and freedom in the face of reckoning day, by ensuring those who they fucked over can’t come near and try to share in their abundance of resources.

  • I had been using Reddit with my custom feed right from the very beginning. It was pretty good, I got more community recommendations from friends and people in the communities I had subscribed to, and I even started dropping some communities I no longer had much interest in, so my feed was pretty dynamic with popular and niche stuff alike.

I still miss my custom feed and having content in some niche communities, but it has been more than 6 months since my preferred 3rd party app has been deployed for Lemmy and I have been completely scrolling and commenting on Lemmy only, still. Never scrolled on Reddit since July 1, never succumbed to desktop-only alternatives like old.reddit, although it is still my default with RES settings applied if I’m to click on Reddit links for info, since the platform was going to be at its shittiest moments from then on, not just the interface.

Primary news communities are good enough to not avoid them like the plague they were in Reddit, riddled with propaganda bots. Big, general meme communities are the same, without many daily reposts in the same community. Movies/series fan communities are very much lacking, except a couple big fan communities. Tbh I prefer Star Trek communities here over any series/movies fan communities anywhere else, although I haven’t watched even one episode of Star Trek so far in my life. Game communities are almost completely dead, but I have started getting my game updates from Steam “Home” screen blog feeds on the library. Big, all gaming and new gaming announcement related communities here are the same as they were in Reddit if I want digital entertainment poisoning anyway.

Overall, fewer content flood of Lemmy with also almost non-existent bot or discussion-disabled loud mouth count feels like a way healthier engagement procedure on this kind of a platform. Writing paragraphs-long comments never felt like a drop in the sea they were on Reddit, even if these comments get only a handful upvotes/downvotes here and maybe a couple replies at best.

  • Most niche communities from R*ddit are pretty much dead here unless you are looking forward to being a regular poster yourself. This rather requires sticking to the lemmy.world open feed rather than creating a custom feed with your communities only, if you are looking to scroll a lot instead, of course. Just stick around a bit, see how often what communities and people reach the general feed, elect to block the ones that feel flooding your feed or not to your taste. Maybe give some regularly-posted communities that are previously not in your area of interest some chance before going on a mass block. This place does have a quality and rather genuine people, but in a limited scope.

  • Being fed up with constant bullshit and not giving known actors any more benefit of the doubt on their every single upcoming potential bullshit activity is a scary thing to possess when speaking in public spaces.

Just because a clock has sentimental value, looks cool or has some other appeal, many people would be willing to criticize you for calling out that it doesn’t work. They’ll take any opportunity on your claim to make you look wrong, even if the broken clock shows the right time by mistake once in every 12 hours, rest of which you correctly keep calling out.

  • This alienation is what gets me. Yes, there is organic and there is fabricated propaganda all over the world, all peoples and cultures have some sort of conflict with another, in the past or ongoing. That will get passed down, to some extent, every generation. But what is the thought process in declining to give the benefit of the doubt to a whole people with very different individuals, some of them are kids, young men and women in their blooming years, going through the same personal problems such as this girl you mention. Do they consider all of them inhuman, even when reminded with the reality of the diverse population? How do they justify thinking this? Do they consider those kids to be future Hamas fighters only? Do they consider those women Hamas breeders only? How can someone have their own lives and be able to understand their societal group at that moment, but not be able to apply the same solidarity to the same civilian that hates the idea of conscription on the other side of a border? If they decide to not apply this solidarity, or at least the thought of giving the same class of individual a benefit of the doubt they would seek themselves if they were on the receiving side of a gun, how do they consider their actions and thoughts to be the right ones?

  • Although the topics of Israeli people protesting and complaining to their genocidal government about their loved ones being hostages or put through this madness on conscription are understandable and very human, I don’t understand why there are no sizeable protests against the genocide their army is committing.

I can think of a few reasons, one being not considering the Palestinians as people, which is plausible when your state has been an ethnostate for so long, as we can see a world history full of the precedents. The information age was supposed to reduce this extreme mass brainwashing and propaganda, but we can see the contrary happen with huge scandalous exposes every year.

The other being forced by the state to stay silent about it, which is pretty much a basic telltale of tyranny in reporting many countries’ affairs, but for some reason does not occur when Israel is mentioned, because they still do elections, right? Well, Russia can’t have the same 20+ years of elected president, that is fishy and undemocratic, but Israel can have for the better part of the same duration?

The “us and them” mentality around Israel is so crooked that a sane person either has to condemn the whole population for being behind Bibi, or have to call the state as frequently, severely and prominently a rogue and tyrannical one as befitting many others that are currently being called so. Humane and the more probable option would be the latter, but when that is also being derided as anti-semitic, what do you do within the limits of understanding and compromise?

  • Good way to end continued conflict and death with this one simple trick. No more bad feels through media if you accept to take this one day/week/month of gruesome coverage! Who needs to work out, maybe just not put more wood to the underlying problems of conflict when you can simply sit in your comfy home halfway across the planet and not hear about Middle East after nuking it?

Oh, climate change is caused by those who experience the effects the most, so they must be main reason why the climate is going bad? Look how they fucked up their environment, it is basically uninhabitable desert all around already! Those no-good oil-drilling bastards!

On the topic of oil, we also would like to say that we purchase dirt cheap oil from them because our empire toppled the previous empire controlling them, and we agreed to keep slaving and harem-loving tribes in power and actually make them rich by buying oil from them. Oh well, we don’t like them being rich tho, so we sell them weapons to keep their slavery and harem-loving, also shariah law enforcing going, all the while taking their richness back into our pockets. That’s how good we are, and how bad they are. They basically ask for being nuked, am I right?

/s after writing such bullshit inspired by the comment I’m replying.

Edit: I assumed they are American, but in case they say “I’m not American”, my point is moot so let’s nuke the Middle East.
