  • Agreed. But not impossible. Insignia got original Halo 2 Xbox Live servers back online. Most nights you can find a game easily with 20-40 people online during peak hours. It requires a soft mod and maybe 1-2 hours of set up to get online. If anyone could just turn on their old Xbox and play, I’m confident those numbers would be in the hundreds at least.

Allowing people to run private servers is an easy way to allow those that want to play to keep playing in an era where most games have some level of online functionality.

  • I think I have both your problems solved. If money isn’t an issue the bureaucracy is a nuisance but not inhibiting as you can pay someone to file all the appropriate paperwork. The language barrier is even easier. I have been to Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland and did not meet a single person that didn’t fluently speak English. Not saying they don’t exist, but operating in most any western European country is very easy as an English speaker. Also you’ll pick up the language over time. Immersion is the best way to learn a language, or so I hear.

  • Just cancelled my prime subscription today. It was set to renew on Friday. I’ve been with prime for close to 10 years.

I don’t see any value. The price has nearly doubled since originally signing up. The free two day shipping was nice but more and more 2 days is 3-4 and I can get free shipping anyway on any order over $35 without prime so I’ll just build up my cart and be patient or order from another place.

The video content was nice but they’re fucking joking if they think I’m going to watch ads or pay $3 more per month to not have ads. I can easily pirate most content including live sports and they’re making it far less convenient to be part of their ecosystem.

I get my books from the library and store my photos locally.

The literal only downside i see is my buddy won’t get his twitch prime subscription from me every month so I guess I’m costing him like $2/month but he’s got several hundred so he’ll do without.

  • Just got done playing about 3 hours via game pass and it is quite fun.

It is much more a survival game than pokemon. You put your pokemon (called ‘Pals’) to work on what is essentially your farm. It is much more a survival game as you are always looking for resources and crafting the next thing for your homestead. I have yet to shoot a gun, currently rocking a spear, bow and arrow, pick axe (for mining), and axe (for chopping wood).

I have ventured off my base twice and you do come across a wide variety of creatures once you venture far enough and there are small towns, people, many creatures, and more materials the further out you traverse. There appears to be ‘bosses’ as there are marked high level creatures and even gangs that will occasionally raid your base.

I could see myself sinking a lot of time into it as it does take a bit to get your base running smoothly to generate the needed materials without too much manual work on your part.

You have a party of 5 creatures but can only have one out at a time. You start with another creature at your base working and as you level gain more slots for more creatures to work for you. It’s kinda funny because you basically beat the shit out of these creatures, capture them, and then put them to work at your base.

All in all I hope development continues to expand on this game as it’s got a solid foundation and I’m not generally someone attracted to survival type games. I’m looking forward to continuing to level up and see what the game has to offer.

  • I agree with you but there are more ethical ways to eat meat while also saving money. Last year my wife and I purchased 1/4 of an entire cow from a farm about 35 miles north of us (friends and family bought the other 3/4). This cow was responsibly raised, grass fed, on a small, local farm. We received 200 pounds of meat with probably a dozen different cuts of meat. This includes dozens of pounds of excellent steak and the meat is simply amazing. We will definitely be going this route moving forward as we averaged the price per pound to ~$4/lb which is far less than the local grocery.

I understand this isn’t possible for everyone as we also had to purchase a chest freezer which requires space but has made our grocery bill far smaller and the meat we are eating much better in many ways.

  • Does anyone feel these things suck? Not in a good way. I’ve had a hoover since i moved out after college 15 years ago. Dudes a beast. My wife wanted a robot we got maybe a year ago and it barely does it job at best. Constantly replacing parts, frequent disruptions, and got like 600 sq ft on our main floor to clean. Way too much work and when it does work it may get the top layer of dirt but it doesn’t feel clean. I can spend 20 min vacuuming the whole house with my regular vacuum and it feels and smells clean for several days. I hope these robots get better but I’m not a fan right now.

  • Let me try on this one because I feel you.

It’s tough to interact, I feel the same way with literally every person I meet.

Ask a question, ideally open ended, not yes or no.

“Hey this is my friend bigchungus”

You: hey, I’m a buddy of op from his gay porno days. How do you know op?

It incentives the other person to share a little about themselves. And then just be curious. They’ll ask you plenty of questions but the reality is everyone else knows way more about the world combined than you do. Be open, share, but pause and see what their reaction is.

I find most of the people I connect with are people I think I may have nothing in common with but the more I ask them questions the more I realize we are similar and it’s easier to open up to.

Also alcohol. Alcohol and drugs. But mainly the the first part.

  • Great. My older bro is one of my best friends. He lives halfway across the country but I’m excited for him to move much closer next year when their lease is up. My younger brother and I play Xbox nearly every day together even though he lives 12 hours away. My two younger sisters live two houses down and we are very close. My older sister lives about 40 min away and is probably the sibling I am most distant from emotionally but we still get along and see each other several times a year.
