  • You know i think i understand companies sometimes but then i keep being baffeld at how evil a company can be.

Apple for example had me surprised with the reaction to the DMA and i previously thought that they couldn‘t possibly suck harder wirh alö their anti-repair stuff.

I still have a bone to pick with Tim Cook himself for rendering my well working Mac Mini 2012 unusable for my app development job by simply not updating Xcode and introducing a breaking change that prevented me from adding support for new iOS versions to old Xcode.

  • I think the question was more about „Why do i have to register to be able to vote?“

Which is a good question. In germany we don‘t have to register to vote at any level. Once we‘re 18 and are registered citizens (the latter part is indeed a problem for immigrants due to bureaucracy), we get to vote.

We get a letter informing us where our local poll station is and then go there. A poll helper then crosses our names off a list once we‘re there and our ID is validated. Or we use the included ballot and send the letter back for mail-in voting. We can also have someone else vote for us if, say, the accessibility measures at the local poll station still don‘t suffice.

Germany isn‘t a perfect state but i personally think they make damn sure that you can vote. And it‘s really problematic that the ostensibly democratic US doesn‘t nearly put as much effort into enabling people to vote.

  • Also, if they get upset with “government do thing” they cannot possibly be fascist as that necessarily requires a large central governance. I’d argue that putting more policies in place is more fascist and Democrats do much more of that sort of thing.

They can be fascist. They don’t need to regulate quite literally everything, just which kind of people are allowed and which they want to get rid of. I hoped that was clear when i suggested that republicans don’t want the government to be involved if the outcome produces an undesired outcome. Like kids being aware of racism, that LGBT people are not monsters, the american history being flawed in order to not repeat mistakes etc.

Now just for personal curiosity, how are they actively endangering your life? Endangering I can agree with, but “actively” I’m curious

Simple. They spread anti-trans rhetoric which has proven to be so infectious, it arrived in germany and starts to endanger me and other trans peoples lives. And not only trans people, but also other LGBT peoples lives, drag queens and even other leftists who aren’t part of the LGBTQIA+ demographic. Basically their whole culture war schtick.

You know, in germany self-ID was on the table. All the talking points against the law and us trans people in general (because trying to prevent self-ID is not enough) started years ago in the US. Luckily self-ID passed but many concessions were made to account for right-wing talking points, no matter how little basis they have in reality.

Violence surrounding the CSD also increased. I was lucky this year but other people weren’t. I will keep going but i worry that i might not be lucky next year if the culture war rhetoric keeps spreading and getting more radical in germany.

Of course there are a few steps between the GOP, FOX, Daily Wire and me but they flung their shit far enough so that i could notice its impact.
