    Edit: Check your inbox

I will once I work up the courage, lol. Plan on making a post about it too once I’m ready to launch. (Still not sure which community would be appropriate to make such a post. There isn’t exactly an active community of DJs on Lemmy, at least not any I could find…)

If you don’t get a DM in a few hours, check back again tomorrow.

I feel this. I’ve been dreaming of running my own internet radio station ever since SHOUTcast first came out. Well it only took 25 years but I finally made it happen, yet I’m too scared to promote it cause I’m afraid that no one will want to join on as a DJ or even tune in. So here I sit, paying for the server space every month for nothing, lying to myself that this’ll finally be the day that I release it to the public…

Edit: Thanks for your interest, everyone! Okay here’s the link:

BTW I’ll need DJs, and curators to suggest songs for rotation when no DJ is on. If you want to be a DJ, click Join at the top right of the page, No experience necessary. Use your own software/hardware, or there’s a Web DJ interface you can use if you don’t have any gear. I won’t be on the Discord I made just yet, but I’ll check the website from time to time for applications.

And no sign up necessary if you just want to suggest a tune for rotation. Just click “Suggest” at the top! Thanks again for helping make my dream come true.

Lastly, I’m a DJ myself so if this station takes off, expect regular 3-5 hour sessions from me!

  • I don’t know how old you are, but I feel like younger people say this more often than older people.

As someone who saw the transition from 8-bit to 16-bit to 32/64-bit in their childhood, graphics were everything from the 80s until at least the 2000s. Each new generation was leaps and bounds better than the last; I remember the discussions in the playground being centered around nothing but graphics every time a new console was announced. Nobody talked about the games.

Nowadays we have incremental updates at best, so now people care less and less about graphics like they used to. Not me, though. I’m still a graphics slut and an absolute whore for path traced games. I’ll play a game I don’t enjoy if it has the latest in graphics tech.

  • Same, except it was Verizon that came to my town. Also was paying close to $200/mo for 500 / 30 Mbps and a data cap. Now I pay the same as you and get 1400 / 80 with no data cap. No ping issues in Counter-Strike 2, either. 5G fixed wireless is way better than people make it out to be.

Of course, once more and more people realize what they’re missing out on and hop on the bandwagon, Verizon will eventually become just as shitty as the competition (and so will T-Mobile). Just ask anyone who lives in an area with a FiOS monopoly. Such is life.
