  • I have a special needs bearded dragon. Special needs because he was born without scales. Also, unfortunately, he is now mostly blind.

He has given me more grey hairs in his 5 years on earth than my previous 30. His care requires multiple skincare products, aloe, etc. His diet requires me to keep bins of cockroaches which also require their own food and water. He also requires heat & UVB bulbs with separate fixtures, and has a specialty “herpstat” that can automatically time the lights, control temperatures, report on humidity, etc.

He is a pain to care for!

I love him so much. I do it all happily and he’s a wonderful, friendly, sweet, amazing companion.

  • A few years ago, I invited a guy over and we ended up playing DDR on PS1. I had the window shades drawn because I live next to a road, have large windows, and I don’t want strangers seeing me flail around like an elephant seal having a seizure.

My mother dropped by unexpectedly and I opened the door, red, panting, and sweaty, with a strange man on my couch who was trying to look casual.

Tried to blurt out that it was a misunderstanding, but she side-eyed me and left quickly.

At least she always texts me before she drops by now? I’m ace, so, for me, it’s particularly mortifying.

  • I absolutely LOVE the original Subnautica, but was frustrated with Below Zero. I’ve posted multiple rants about it on Lemmy before.

Already skeptical about this game because it looks like it has

    Tap for spoiler

    two characters instead of one

    .

A big appeal of the first game was the isolation you felt, and the struggle to find life and accomplish gargantuan tasks.

    Cautiously optimistic for this installment.

Please don’t have any characters yap & quip throughout this one, god, please!

  • I used to hitchhike, and one day, got a ride with a trucker hauling blackened animal organs to be turned into pet food (they were blackened as a mark to show they were unfit for human consumption at the place where they were mass harvested). It was the worst smell I’ve ever smelled in my entire life. I remember gagging for a few minutes as the driver laughed and told me what the deal was.

Still not the worst road story I have lol.

But be aware of what your pet’s food is made from. Or make your own, if you’re worried about it!

There’s typically warning against eating pet food on the bags for that very reason.

  • My stupid, ugly lizard.

I had my eye on a beautiful female leatherback bearded dragon with great genetics! She was around 200$ and I was so ready to buy her. Contacted the breeder and was told that she had been sold just a few hours earlier. Absolutely crushed.

Then the breeder offered up a defect dragon. It was going to be culled due to a genetic fuck-up that caused it to be born without spikes or scales. They’re much much much much much more difficult to care for into adulthood, due to their special needs. 20$ adoption fee + shipping.

He was the opposite of what I had wanted.

So naturally, sucker that I am, I adopted him.

    He’s turning 5 this November.

I love my stupid, ugly lizard. 💕

(here is what a standard one looks like:)
