Imagine that you pay for an ad free streaming service through your roku, like HBO for example. And now you have ads streaming over it?
People will sue for a way to disable it over ad free paid content.
Also, this will lead to way more pirating. People are sick of advertisements.

I have multiple accounts on Mastodon, kbin, Lemmy, Misskey and Pixelfed. I originally signed up to different communities to get a feel for what worked for me. I’m glad I did because one was sold (mastodon.cloud) to a shady spam company, and my favorite Mastodon instance that I settled on had an admin hissyfit and shut down because he didn’t own any big boy pants. And another instance suddenly became a csam farm and I deleted that crap real fast.
I still visit a few local communities to see how they have developed, some better than others. Some are just people moaning about everything they can post about, just like twitter is. So annoying.
I personally find that I have more fun on kbin and I use Mastodon for news and keeping up with hashtag follows. I really hope in the future that kbin gets more tools like Mastodon with following hashtags, bookmarks and a filtering system like they do. It’s really nice to be able to mute and block other people easily.
I use my “smart” tv as a monitor to stream. It has never connected to the internet and it does not pester me.

Not for a dumb tv but I own a newer Vizio. I actually use it as a huge desktop monitor through HDMI. The actual tv itself has never been connected to the internet. You could connect a streaming stick (roku, amazon, google) if you wanted to. I stream everything from the net. Vizio has a horrible “free” streaming tv service that tracks you. But you can still use the actual tv in other ways if you don’t connect it to the net. It will act as a dumb tv.
Until we have a federal privacy law that allows us to opt out of being tracked on every device, you have to “work around” the problems.

Carpets need to be cleaned more often if you wear outside shoes inside, or if you go barefoot inside. Wearing socks (better) or slippers (best) inside keeps carpets cleaner longer. Hardwood floors are easier to clean with bare feet.
I really prefer hard floors and area rugs that are small enough to be washed in a machine.
