An instance gets boring if you use it too much. Time to switch instances…

  • Social media usually has all sorts of people, even if it’s only 1% shitty people, that’s 1 in every 100 interactions. And the percentage of shitty people is probably much higher. It’s going to be difficult to avoid.

For Lemmy: You can use an account on beehaw.org to reduce negativity. Downside is that they also defederated from lemmy.world and sh.itjust.works. Or alternatively, you can use another instance that federates with them all, and just browse mostly on beehaw communities.

Why do people even use twitter-like platforms? Like what’s so good about following users instead of communities? Like I don’t want to hear about tech from a Linus Sebastian, I want to hear about it from a community of people interested in technology.

That’s why I never even liked twitter nor the fediverse alternative, Mastodon. It doesn’t really make sense to me.

  • People who join the military aren’t exactly known for being smart.

Or more accurately, the military wouldn’t want you if you are too smart. They want the average person that can understand basic commands without being too smart to question it.

Not surprising at all that a military person decided to do this.

Edit: On the other hand. Maybe he’s actually a genius attempting a “becoming a propaganda tool” gambit. North Korea wouldn’t lose much for treating him good, and they can make him say things on camera about how “bad” the US is. As long as North Korea deems him useful, he might actually live a decent life. But thats dependent on North Korea doesn’t just decide to get rid of him once they decide that they don’t like him anymore.

  • Meh, it’s one thing to disagree with how to fix the problems in the world, it’s another thing to glorify past atrocities or just outright deny them. If someone starts denying the holocaust, I’d just ignore them, and report. Same with denying atrocities committed by any other groups of people. There’s no arguing with these people. Argument is for topics like:

Which is a better pet: Cat vs Dog?

    Representative or Direct Democracy?

    Unitary vs Federal?

    FPTP or Ranked Choice?

    Presidential system vs Parliamentary system?

And arguing whether some groups of innocent people should be summarily executed or not is not a valid discussion. Arguing about whether history happened or not when there is already more than enough evidence isn’t a good topic to debate about.

  • I don’t have any energy or motivation to play games anymore, even though I used to play avidly.

That sounds like me. You know what was happening to me. I was diagnosed with depression. I’m not a doctor and I can’t diagnose you over a internet forum post, but you might want to to see a doctor for potential health issues, or perhaps you might be dealing with a depression issue, like I am.

I used to write and worldbuilding for my story, but ideas have run out and I just have no energy to continue writing. That’s probably due to depression.

Asking for the meaning of life? Lemmy’s great and all, but I don’t think I’ll find it here lmao

The meaning of life is what you want it to be. The universe has not given us one.

Biologically? It’s to reproduce. For your DNA to continue existing (or at least part of it).

Evolutionary? For our species to survive and go on conlonizing the solar system, galaxy, universe… etc. (hopefully doing so peacefully unlike in the past)

    Technologically? To achieve immortality.

    Philosophically?

To find happiness. Do what’s pleasurable to you (Hedonism).

To be a good person. Make the world a better place (even if only slightly).

To acquire more knowledge for yourself and share the knowledge to progress humanity. (Eg: Conduct science experiments, find fossils, identify unknown species (there are still a lot of unidentified species, oddly enough), etc.)

Personally, I just try to find happiness, being happy makes everything else more meaningful for me.

If this is to close for comfort for rule 3, feel free to delete mods

There’s also another community where you can just talk [email protected] about life and stuff.

Also, I know you are busy with college and stuff, but when I had an existential crisis, I found this show called The Good Place, it helped me process some thoughts regarding existence and stuff. You might want to watch it when you find the time to do so.
