Watching live service games crash and burn is just so cathartic.

Nope, I’ll even specifically avoid companies that I see or hear excessive ads for. When I needed to change car insurance a while back and had a list of options going, I immediately removed all the ones I could remember seeing advertising for.

Two reasons:

1. I have an unhealthy hatred of advertising.

2. They’re spending an absurd amount of money on digital spam as opposed to making their product/service better or cheaper. Some percentage of what you pay for in the product is to cover their advertising campaigns, and I prefer that percentage be as small as possible.

Nio has seemingly been successful with battery swap stations in their cars, so luckily the concept hasn’t been completely abandoned.

When I was a kid, for some reason I really wanted coal for Christmas and I was diappointed that only the bad kids got it. My parents decided to mess with me one year by hiding all my actual presents and only putting a piece of coal in my stocking. I was thrilled and thought it was so cool. I have no idea why I thought it was cool, I was a weird kid. My parents gave up on the joke before I even realized that none of the presents under the tree had my name on them. I was entirely happy with the piece of coal.

Ironically, it’s become one of my favorite Christmas memories and it’s one of few presents I still have as an adult.

My only “wants” for phone hardware are that it’s small and easily repairable. The iPhone Mini is small, the Fairphone is easily repairable, modern Pixels are nether. The repairability is also more of a concern on the Pixels since they kind of have a reputation for being unreliable. I’m not sure if Pixels are genuinely worse than the average phone, but anecdotally I see a lot more articles like this about Pixels than any other phone.

Unfortunately, an iPhone 13 Mini.

I’d love to switch back to GrapheneOS (used it on a Pixel 3a for a while), but I really don’t like Pixel hardware. The Fairphone 5 is on my radar, but it’s expensive for what it is and also isn’t available to purchase in the US. I’m also not sure if CalyxOS supports it yet, and there aren’t any other Android roms that I’m interested in.

So I’m suffering with iOS until something else becomes available.

I’m hoping Linux phones become viable within the next 5-10 years. I have Ubuntu Touch on my Pixel 3a and PostMarketOS on my Pinephone. Mobile Linux is super cool and fun to play with, but is nowhere near daily driver ready yet.

I think this would be fine if it’s just a matter of discharging static electricity. If static is building up on your body, touching the car frame will redistribute that energy across both yourself and the car frame. By that point, there’s not enough potential energy in your body to damage whatever electronics you’re working on.

Also, if you happen to be working on computers, they’re pretty damn resistant to static shocks. Better safe than sorry of course, but it’s hard to kill a computer with static. ElectroBoom and LTT made a pretty good video about that a while back.

Ever since they started the Epic/Uplay exclusivity stuff, it’s made it easier than ever to avoid buying their games.

Traveling at high speeds just takes a lot of power regardless of fuel, but ICE cars are so inefficient in city driving it makes highways look good in comparison. 25-50mph might be more efficient, but every time you brake that kinetic energy is turned into waste heat, totally negating the benefit of driving slower.

EVs on the other hand have regenerative braking systems. Rather than using friction to slow the car down, they just use the motors by applying resistance to the wheels. The kinetic energy is used to charge the battery while slowing the car down. You get the benefit of slower speeds without much braking loss, so this is where EVs shine.

I hate Tesla and especially the Cybertruck as much as the next guy, but this was a highway test and that sounds like a completely normal result.

I own a Bolt EV which is rated for 259 miles of range. On the highway, that’s more like ~220. That sounds bad, but the other side of it is that I get ~300 miles of range during my normal work commutes through the city. This is just how EVs are, the estimated range is based on a mixed test. EVs are backwards compared to ICE, you’ll get ~20% less range than the EPA estimate driving highway speeds and ~20% more doing purely city driving.

I’m skeptical of hydrogen for consumer vehicles, but it makes total sense for something like this where refueling stations can be built on-site. If they can solve the refueling problem, there’s no reason to have 200+ expensive batteries for a fleet of electric forklifts.

There’s chance they did, but I didn’t get any kind of announcement email about it. I also used an email alias for my old Mint account, so if I suddenly start getting spam emails to that address, I’ll have my answer, lol

Hmm, I think I might be mistaken on that then. I remember them announcing that they were nixing the $15 plan (which a couple of my family members were on), but it’s still there. Maybe they reverted it, or it was just Reddit spreading nonsense information. I’ll edit my comment.

Tello. The service and price have been basically the same as pre-acquisition Mint. They also use T-Mobile’s network but are not owned by them (…for now, at least.)

Also probably password hashes.

The company did not make it clear from this statement if hashed passwords were accessed by the attacker.

I don’t expect good news if they chose not to share that detail.

I jumped ship to another carrier right after they were bought out by T-Mobile and I’ve dodged price hikes and now data breaches. T-Mobile just ruins everything they touch.

Yeah, I’ve put Ubuntu Touch on a Pixel 3a and had a pretty similar experience unfortunately. I see potential, but it’s just not usable yet (for me at least).

Things are slowly improving, but public chargers do kinda suck right now. There’s an app called PlugShare that you can download which lets you see reviews for all chargers in your area. It’s saved some headaches a few times cause I can just avoid chargers with bad ratings.
