The dam wasn’t the problem. It was a symbol of the problem, which was the rift between the 2 peoples living in such close proximity. Nature is indifferent, people are not. Nature doesn’t care if there’s a dam, it just becomes a different habitat. People should have cared about impacting each other’s way of life.

Nature removed the dam, and the barrier to the people coming together, when the responsible parties decided to right their wrongs and consider each other, regardless of the high cost. Even if that’s not the case, the story remains that nature’s power has to be harnessed to a purpose by people. But I think they were going for the former.

Anyway, not a great movie, but also not a plot hole.

There’s a nuclear test site in Georgia where the us government did preliminary tests for a nuclear powered airplane. It was bat shit insane. It seems the idea was not to shield the reactor, but to only shield the crew, and rely on distance and speed to not irradiate basically everything else.

To that end, they built a nuclear reactor that could be hoisted in and out of a hole in the ground so that it could be run unshielded above ground. They tested the effects on all sorts of materials, and a huge swath of surrounding woods, including all the creatures there, which promptly died.

It’s now a recreational area, and considered generally safe, except for a few small, fenced off areas.

So my point is, watch what you wish for.

You’d probably be a whole lot better off with a small air horn. They’re used frequently in training problem behaviors out of aggressive dogs, and they work wonders.

I’m not one to be all doom and gloom about ai, but giving one its own small nuclear reactor, presumably one that’s in close proximity to it and separate from the local power grid… that’s obviously going to have substantial security measures around it… and be that much more difficult to cut off if need be…

Yes. You put more into a post, so it hurts more if you don’t get anything out of it. If I were to make a post i’d agonize over the wording and set aside time in front of an actual keyboard to respond and then i’d be completely overwhelmed anyway if there was even a modest response to the post. It’s a pretty self centered, basic misunderstanding of people to think that everyone can or should make their own posts.

If I reply to someone, I assume at least they read it. As a person who requires little social interaction that’s enough for me, even if I wrote an extremely detailed wall of text.

This type of ‘post or you’re the problem’ comment really gets on my nerves too. If no one replies, people won’t post again, and if a sub is nothing but single posts no one’s coming back.

It’s great you’re putting in the effort to post, and people should appreciate that. I’m autistic and I can’t post. I can give incredibly detailed information in response to a post or a comment if it relates in any way to any of my special interests. And I do. And so do people like me. It’s why you can find the answer to basically any question on the internet. These ‘post more’ people need to cool it, because the reason people like content like this is depth and engagement and it’s not going to happen without people engagine with the content too.
