If your goal is to get away from this AI shit show, Kagi might not be the answer, according to their own blog.
I will search for a very interesting article you should read, before deciding to give kagi any money.
Edit: found it

Yes, ukraine should lose some more soldiers to take a cut out of russia, to really show them. /s
Damn, this position at the sideline, rooting for our team, surley is comfortable.
That’s the neat part - you don’t! Fuck Adobe.
Who puts up with this shit anyway? Go buy an Apple. You can eat it while installing Linux.
However to expect things to just be done for us out of the kindness of people’s hearts I think is bordering on entitled.
Yes, there are people who do that, but there are many more people in the FOSS world who don’t expect anything and instead contribute.
Focusing on the entitled people won’t make you happy, reagardless the topic.
My father printed the GNU license 100 times, rolled it up and gave me a good beating with it. The only true way to learn about the four freedoms.
I can only assume, that these downvotes are meant as a not so smart joke.
And I have no intention of living off the technological grid to mitigate that.
I would argue that you are already living off the technology grid. Before starting my FOSS journey, every software I used was a dull ‘Just click here and let the algorithm do it’s job’. By beeing conscious about the software I am using now, I accidently found a lot of joy in technical things, feeling a lot more ‘on’ the technological grid than before.
Can you elaborate on what doomsday scenario you’re referring to?
I am not the commenter above, but my greatest fear with all those data hungry companies is the control and power we give to not elected entities. Knowing all about every person in a state and knowing how to use this data for targeted ads, targeted video recommendations, targeted search results,…, could make a difference in elections and law making. It is basically undermining democracy, and I am a big fan of real democracy.
As OC said, free, opensource, no ads. You don’t need a Spotify-Account for that.
If you want to get rid of Spotify even more: Try the app ViMusic. Every Song for free, no ads, etc…
Der Name Sören ist definitiv ein Hinweis darauf :D
I thought about your comment. My conclusion: a Linux laptop doesn’t need as much space as a normal sized chicken. It’s cleaner too.
Time to change your username. BTW I use Debian everywhere. Best distro.
People are passionate about FOSS, that is not a bad thing. What is your excuse for complaining about other peoples way of expressing their passion? Is that your passion, to spread a little more negativity in the world?
We have all these conveniences now and somehow people are not happier. Maybe the improvements you showed weren’t improvements after all and society should have spent more time to focus on people instead of developing and selling the next great music platform.
You are missing the point when you tell people to go back to cable, encyclopedias etc. because it’s not about those things, it’s about escaping into an idealized past while being depressed in the present. They should have your sympathy.
Using Kagi is not a bad decision. After reading a lot of positive things about it and beeing quite hyped, I was so ungently reminded, that every good thing comes with its own baggage of bad.
I thought I share it, so that everyone can make their own decision.
I also tried Metager, a german meta search engine. Sad to report: not usable for me, although I like their club (suma-ev) and donated some money towards them.
For now it’s DDG I guess. :-(
