Dude, I understand the logic behind Gitmo, we have all had 20 years to figure it out. That’s not the point. You said we are in line with a International laws, but we bend and break them at will constantly, because the US can essentially shrug and go “what are you gonna do about it?” We do it all the time. We are seen as one notch better than a schoolyard bully by many countries. Gitmo is grey area at best partially because we would never let another country do that to our citizens.

I think you should only be able to go after sharing/pirating if you can definitively prove it’s causing greater harm to your product then it’s benefit.

The problem is that while most of us agree, we all also know that isn’t how the world works. IA is a major name, they are obviously not operating under the radar. They picked a fight they weren’t ready to take on and they should’ve known better, but instead they decided to jeopardize the entire project.

I still can’t believe IA took this risk, however. I agree it should’ve been fine, but they and we know it isn’t. They basically begged for this to happen and I don’t understand why when they clearly don’t have their ducks in a row to pick this fight (unlike TPB which plays the game well).

How? We have no bans or restrictions on it. Who is enforcing this and how? Who is determining the acceptable amount of mercury in our food when you don’t want the FDA around to do that? You’re just assuming these things will happen without any apparatus for knowledge or enforcement.

If you knowingly sell me a car with an engine about to fail, you are in no way accountable. Are you going to seriously expect every single American to become a mechanic overnight? To be able to diagnose the condition of a modern engine in 2023?

It is not reasonable to ask everybody to become experts with everything they use or need. We don’t live in rural communities in the 1500s. The breadth and depth of knowledge you need now is exponentially more burdensome. Hence why we have specialized so much.

That requires me to do it potentially under duress, with little to no time, etc. During a crisis it can’t be assumed that the first thing I’ll do is lockdown my phone. Anything that requires an anticipatory step is inherently risky.
