  • Very small things, but still things I needed to remember to do. Running it every day. Making sure to clean it every week. (Ice or garbage disposal cleaner) If I didn’t clean it, even after running it every day, it would smell. When my partner would clog it, I would have to fix it. (Again, it took little time.) Making sure nothing fell in there before I ran it every time. I would often find my measuring spoons or a fork in there. (It doesn’t really seem to matter to my family how many times I tell them not to leave small things in the sink.)

    I recognize this is very little and it’s basically nothing for most people, but sometimes I have a very hard time keeping up with things and the garbage disposal is very out of sight, out of mind. The sink strainer is very visible.


  • I find they’re pretty ubiquitous where I’m from. I had one in every apartment I’ve lived in. I don’t have one in my house though.

    I know a lot of people will just dump a lot of food waste in there. After struggling with it, I started just throwing out all of the waste and using the garbage disposal for the small bits of food that would normally get caught in the sink strainer.

    Now that I’m back to living in a place with no garbage disposal, I do miss it a little. The sink strainer is a bit gross to handle. But it’s also pretty nice not having to maintain the garbage disposal so it all evens out.




  • I strongly prefer text as well. Watching a video is harder for me. I’m not sure if it’s because I have multiple processing disorders.

    With text, if I don’t understand a sentence or paragraph, I can read it over and over again and try different ways to try to comprehend. You can rewind a video but it’s definitely more work. (I have ADHD so when I’m trying to learn something, it is definitely a downside the more I have to think about things that aren’t the subject at hand.)

    If I am not having comprehension issues, reading is far easier than watching because I can just get through it faster.

    I do like videos for certain things, like a tutorial on woodworking after I read about it. Seeing it done really helps with some parts I get stuck on.

    I chalked it up to my brain just working differently from other people’s. (I am neurodivergent.) I think we’re in the minority.


  • I will never get over Breyer’s ice cream going cheap.

    Have you looked at Häagen-Dazs? I only looked at their plain chocolate flavor, but the ingredients are only Cream, Skim Milk, Cane Sugar, Cocoa Processed With Alkali, and Egg Yolks. That’s the real deal right there!

    I like Ben and Jerry’s, but I definitely know that it’s not “real” ice cream. They shine because they have good flavor combinations.

    Bruster’s and Graeter’s are ice cream shops that make their ice cream in-house. They also contain stabilizers but I prefer it over what’s in the grocery store. I’m not sure if that is because I’m used to it or what. If you have a location for either of these near you, I would check them out.

    Lastly, I would check if you have any local places that make their own ice cream. You might find what you’re looking for there.

    “All” here vs other social media is much better

    It’s more likely that arguments are civil. There are still quite a few venomous arguments but I’ve noticed that it it proportionally less.

    On Reddit or Facebook, if you didn’t like a group you left and made your own. If you didn’t like the admins, tough shit. Here, if you don’t like the admins, you can use a different instance.

    Likes and dislikes are separate, and are in some cases viewable who submit them. I feel like this keeps people a little more honest.

    I like the modlog and transparency. It’s so much easier that when someone complains about unfair mod action, to see if they are in the right or exaggerating.

    There is an “end” to Lemmy. There isn’t just infinite content to scroll through.

    The types of common negative personalities here are different from that of Reddit. Reddit has more misogyny, classism, antinatalists, and obnoxious atheists. (As opposed to the chill atheists.) Lemmy has quite a few people that are pretty shitty to those that are disabled or cannot get out of some situations. If you cannot work towards the greater good without any rest, can’t escape a bad situation, or can’t just extend yourself further, you are trash. There are also more fringe beliefs here. I do like it because of the different perspectives, even if I very strongly disagree. (It makes me think!) Unfortunately we still have the dumbass arguments about generations but you can’t have it all.




  • Up until my late 20’s, I had very oily skin. I think I might need to change a few things because I am still oily but I do feel some skin dryness from time to time.

    In the AM…

    Wet my face with warm water.

    Clinique All About Clean Soap - face wash - I used this after trying a few others. I like this ok. I might revisit the CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser. I don’t remember why I stopped using it.

    Rinse off with warm water. Blot face with towel.

    Thayer’s Witch Hazel - toner - When I got the Clinique face wash, I got the three step set. It came with a toner that they called “Clarifying Lotion” and I hated it. I actually read it and it contains alcohol so I stopped using it. (Some “lotion”!) I saw that one of the ingredients in the toner was witch hazel, and it looks like it’s good by itself, so I just roll with that now. Just put some on a cotton round and gently apply it to the whole face. I use it because it makes my skin feel nice. I occasionally skip this step.

    Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel - facial lotion - I’ve tried so many facial lotions and they usually cause acne for me. Including Cetaphil. I love this stuff. This is good by itself when I’m oily. When I’m a bit dryer, though…

    Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly - facial lotion - I put this on when my normal moisturizer isn’t enough. I put it on after the other stuff sinks in.

    I use SPF after that. I either use Clinique City Block or the SPF included in my foundation if I’m wearing it. I want to get back into Korean sunscreen but I haven’t looked into it. I use what’s on hand for skin not on my face. The City Block is meh but it’s by far the least unpleasant feeling on my face.

    If I am feeling extra lazy, I just cleanse my face with micellar water and moisturize. The micellar water I use is Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water, pink cap.

    In the PM…

    If I’m wearing makeup, I remove it with micellar water or Clinique Take the Day Off makeup remover, depending on what I put on that day.

    I wash my face, use toner. Then…

    Clinique Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector + Interrupter - serum - I’ve tried this because I want to get rid of some of these dark spots on my face. I’m going to finish this bottle and not re-buy this though.

    I moisturize when I’m done.

    If I’m feeling lazy, I do the same micellar water and moisture deal like in the morning.

    For the rest of my body, I use Gold Bond Diabetic Body Lotion, and I use Mediheal hand cream for my hands. I also apply witch hazel to irritated skin. If I have an irritated spot that would take over a week to resolve itself, using witch hazel makes it heal in just a day or two.

    I used to use Stridex pads because I would get pimples often until my mid-20’s or so. I stopped using them. They were good but I haven’t found the need to use them any more.

    I used to use Ole Henriksen Truth Serum at night. I stopped during the pandemic due to… Well I wasn’t feeling great at that time. I liked the serum, though.

    I was thinking of researching what I can do for my dark spots and pitting from acne from years ago. I was going to look at Paula’s Choice, but now looking at your link I am reconsidering.

    How is the tretinion treating you? Is it worth getting a script for it? If you’re American, was it difficult to get? I hear it is really good for many skin concerns and might help with the ones I’m looking to treat.
