Back in the day, I liked the idea of a piratebox like: https://piratebox.cc/ but the setup was too much. LibraryBox was the successor and it died as well.
Ive never tried it, but Butterbox looks interesting. If anyone knows any good backup systems let me know!
Right now, I just maintain a couple of yunohost setups because its easy and I dont have to put in a huge amount of work to get federated services up and running.
I still dont like something that is electric powered making it so you cant get through a door. If there is a short, the battery dies (which it will someday) or generally bad parts could potentially lead to a preventable death. Cars were made so keys (or key like) can open the door no matter what. And especially in the heat everyone is going through in the US.
Theirs also: https://tildeverse.org/ I know next to nothing about this rabbit hole but it looks cool.
I learned about https://32bit.cafe/ just today. Looks like a lot of people are starting to build up the communities again.
Go on universe simulator and find out.
Oh that’s neat, thanks.
Our local city went from a couple of hobbiest to around 20 people getting into it. It’s like a pager lol. But it does have a phone app as well as a web one.
Testing out my meshtastic setup and seeing friends.
I’m in the same boat. I want to like the game and it is fun, but I got stuck with some area with orbs and my save corrupted…one of the orbs just disappeared after 50+ hours and I can’t bring myself to play again and possibly have the same bug pop up. Maybe someday but it’s just such a big game.
Betterment/Weathfront does a lot of this already, but without “AI”. Its just algorithms. It sounds the same…but its really not.
Nope those were it. And it’s still broken after getting replaced once. It’s unfortunate, I wanted a better laptop, not a desktop in all but name.
That’s great but they need to fix their hinges first.
Any good lists? Because pihole defaults to the aforementioned servers.
Would pihole work if all the major DNS that gets pulled resolved the same? I would imagine the change would only work for a while.
Is there such a thing as federated dns servers, self hosted or otherwise? I don’t particularly care about piracy but I can see this dominoing into abortion, lgtq+ ect…ect…
Some you can access via the Ethernet and change the settings. Got one of those units and then see if it has the option.
Here’s just one tutorial: https://linux-tips.com/t/disabling-ups-beep-under-linux/592
There are many others. Good in places where medical equipment keeps you alive and sleeping.
General UPS are great of medical/server devices too. You can get a generic one and then use software to disable the beep. It’s what they are used for. The batteries are even replaceable.
Agreed.
I think that just starting with networking might be the way to go. I mean if someone wants to a market a fedi alternative, they would have a huge advantage on software developers, server hosters, and generally our small communities.
Any good forks without the ai? I really don’t want that many ai companies with my data.
