This is the one case where I’d make an exception. I read through the threads, it got particularly heated.
Hey, thanks for reading my bio. You know, you’re pretty cool. I’m glad we got to share this moment together.

Life has gotten better since I dropped it. Moved a dozen or so people over to Signal and have been running with that ever since.
I do miss the ability to easily stream games, though.
No matter how you look at it, Wikipedia is one of the modern wonders of the world; those who maintain and defend it are doing holy work. The availability of free, high quality, publically indexed and equitably accessible information about our modern world is such an under-appreciated gift.
Education is a powerful tool, but when most people hear “knowledge is power” they think of personal success or political might. But its true power is on an evolutionary scale.
No other species in the history of our (known) universe has the capability to study the world, and then share those the conclusions to the next generation with high precision, like we do. It’s absolutely fascinating. It’s what sets us apart from the rest. It defines the human experience.
The reality is that the integrity of this mechanism (or rather, the democratization of said mechanism) is under threat. It always has been, but the nature of the threat has changed, and its scary. I’m glad it is being protected, at least for now.
I have no sympathy for those who attack and deface our libraries, whether they be physical or digital
Man I fucking love this community sometimes. This is like the 5th fantastic self hostable open source software I’ve seen since joining lemmy, and every time, it gives me that feeling of discovering the internet all over again.
Possible solution to the Von Neumann bottleneck? Or does this address a different issue
I’ve been getting very close to ditching YouTube. This change showed up a few weeks ago for me and pushed me a bit further.
If they succeed in inserting ads into the video stream I’ll bail alltogether. I can fit a subscription to Brilliant, Dropout, and several creator Patreons into the cost of a YouTube Red subscription, and I won’t have to deal with these attention-optimizing UI changes.
I’d imagine the effect was exasperated due to the pressure your feet are under when walking, whereas in a bath the weight is distributed and you’re mostly buoyant. Its probably fine.
This is a nice thread. I don’t have any big achievements recently but I’m doing alright. Hope you are too.
Stopped using Discord a few months ago. Not for any specific reason, just felt like I wasn’t using my time effectively. Anyone important added me on Signal, and then I deleted the apps from my phone and computer.
I can’t put words to how much better my mental health has gotten.
This doesn’t really relate to your comment, I guess, but just thought I would mention it in case anyone else is considering taking a break from the platform.
Every drone does that, since RemoteID got implemented.
This is also good, but, on the other hand, airships are awesome
Well shit.
What the fuck is a GRAVITY BOMB???
Yeah, coming from someone who’s tried it, the jailbreak is sorta useles at the moment. Hoping someone comes along and improves on it. Spite is an excellent motivator.
Would make for a lovely home assistant control device.
I understand where you’re coming from, and I don’t mean to minimize the issue - just didn’t expect my reply to incite a serious discussion about the pitfalls of addiction. Its absolutely an important subject involving many complicated factors.
For context, though, I can assure you that my comment did not come from a place of subconscious interest. I place incredible value on maintaining a clear state of mind, and go to great strides to keep it that way. I would never willingly jeprodaize it.
Its really not. The context of the question was “there are zero consequences for your actions”. To put it somewhat reductively, addiction is, in essence, a direct or indirect consequence of experiencing a high. Since the hypothetical specifiee no consequences, there would be no addiction.
I appreciate the concern, but please don’t read too much into it. Its a silly answer to a silly question.
Everyone’s talking about killing people and I’m here thinking about how you could try every drug imaginable with zero risk of addiction
Radness factor is left out of efficiency calculations way too often
