Same with consistent pronunciation in Indonesian - it’s so much better. I feel sorry for little kids learning to read English and getting told to ‘sound it out’. Sure thing, which of the five to nine sounds shall I use for the letter ‘a’?

Lots of good mentions here, but I’m not seeing my fav, Smack the Pony
Wish by Peter Goldsworthy. J.J. has always been more at home in Sign language than in spoken English. Recently divorced, he returns to school to teach Sign. His pupils include the foster parents of a beautiful and highly intelligent ape named Eliza.

Yes, in a shallow tourist mine in Australia. Apparently coal starts to flake easily once it’s been exposed to air for a bit, so they kept a big chunk in a large jar of water that you could take out and handle. It felt like a light wet rock.
The sample, and the coal at the workface of the mine was stereotypicaly black. We wore hats with lights on, and when we emerged back out to the daylight I had an overwhelming urge to speak in a Monty Python type Yorkshire accent and go home and have my back scrubbed clean of the coal dust by my swarthy tired looking wife while I sat in a tub in front of the fire in the kitchen and our urchins played in the street.
I don’t want to give the impression I’m a big fossil fuel tourist, but I’ve also seen blobs of crude oil on beaches near Mediterranean sea oil terminals.
Sadly, I didn’t try to set fire to them on either of these occasions, which I now regret.
If you didn’t have to deal with a cumbersome spacesuit, I imagine you could run, but you’d lean over much more towards the horizontal - like maybe 45° or lower, so each ‘step’ would be a push backwards in line with your longitudinal axis. Don’t waste energy by bounding up.
Source: wild speculation.
I don’t sew, but a follow several people who do (for vintage and modern clothing) on Instagram - just to emotionally vampire off their irrepressible happiness when it all comes together and they make something that comes out as great as they imagined (lots of “and it has pockets!!!” moments) or they master a new skill they had been struggling with - like sewing button holes in denim or whatever.
It’s not for me, but I love the obvious satisfaction and joy other people are getting out of it.
For anyone without the inclination to wade through 47 pages, here’s what they say about HTMX, which they’ve classified as “Assess” rather than “Trial” or “Adopt”
htmx is a small, neat HTML UI library that recently became popular seemingly out of nowhere. During our Radar discussion, we found its predecessor intercooler.js existed ten years ago. Unlike other increasingly complex pre-compiled JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks, htmx encourages the direct use of HTML attributes to access operations such as AJAX, CSS transitions, WebSockets and Server- Sent Events. There’s nothing technically sophisticated about htmx, but its popularity recalls the simplicity of hypertext in the early days of the web. The project’s website also features some insightful (and amusing) essays on hypermedia and web development, which suggests the team behind htmx have thought carefully about its purpose and philosophy.
Would be handy for attaching your name badge, or if you need to put those little hard drive screws somewhere so you don’t lose them.
Yes, and it’s very phrased based, so you sort of absorb the grammar without a lot of explicit rules.
