  • This moves me.

    Thank you.

I’m so distanced from all regulatory processes that they seem literally as impossible as your vision of boycotts. And yet, I now see how pressuring regulatory bodies for the change we want is a very effective tactic.

But it look how long legalized marijuana has taken — that process started in the 70s.

Look how fast Musk was able to turn Twitter into the mouthpiece of fascism. Weeks.

This is what we are dealing with.

I want to push back on your sense of “convenience.”

I am not covetous of streaming. I have abandoned it.

I’m in charge of my media libraries.

What I’m saying is that we can do both: apply pressure on regulatory bodies WHILE abandoning crushing predatory capitalism.

I eat healthily. It does not hurt ME that I refuse to eat corporate bile.

I choose my media. It does not hurt ME that I never see ads.

Anyway — hoping that you can appreciate you have made me value the regulatory pressure argument while I still believe we are powerful.

  • Green flags:

    Their smile.

    Their obvious kindness.

    Their big heart.

    They make you laugh.

    They drive.

    They ask you to drive.

They have friends that you like.

    Your friends like them.

    They read novels.

    The play a musical instrument.

    They speak another language.

They can ride a bike faster than you can and you think you’re kind of hot shot about that.

They openly tell you that some of your habits are unsavory. You know they are. How courageous of them to mention it.

    They like you anyway.

They can make chocolate chip cookies from memory and do like for no reason.

    You like their family.

They don’t like your family but then again neither do you.

34 years later the two of you not only love one another but find things to like about one another every single day.

  • Not sure this reply will get seen by the kind people who have helped explain this situation to me but I just want to say “thank you”. And I get it. The ethos here is the diversity and the federation — Reddit subs were easily corrupted by power hungry turds… anyway… there were a lot of thoughtful replies and I appreciate all that.

I still feel new here but I’m pleased to be welcomed by a lot of very thoughtful and patient people.

  • I suppose that I can personally tolerate same-theme communities across multiple instances. I feel like I was a late arrival at Reddit and when I grasped it’s potential, it became an important source of information, entertainment and community for me. Then it imploded.

But a lot of people are still over there and I guess I hope to see it flatlined completely.

So I hope that Lemmy can be as easy to use as possible.

But this thread has persuaded me that redundant groups are healthy. I just hope new users come here and abandon all corporate social media.
