I live alone and read books. I mostly read them at home but I’d like to go out and read. The thing is I have really bad adhd so it involves not just my Kindle but I also listen to the audiobook at the same time or I can’t stay focused on the book. I just listen to it on my phone with earbuds so it’s hopefully not a huge deal but it can’t be too loud or chaotic.

Where can I go out and “read” besides a coffee shop or the library. The library isn’t convenient and it’s a little weird going to coffee shops over and over again. I live in a big city so I’m sure there are other places I just don’t know what they are.

Any suggestions?

Oh, interesting. I switched from books/ebooks to audiobooks so I could do other things at the same time, I never thought to combine them.

I listen to audiobooks while walking, if you were open to dropping the reading part. Parks, my neighborhood, while shopping, all while listening to books.

As for sitting down and reading/listening at the same time, I would suggest breweries to mix up the coffee shops, especially earlier in the afternoon or early evening before drinking crowds show up. Parks again.

And as a former barista and bartender, so long as you buy at least one drink, don’t dirty your area unnecessarily, and clear out if the place starts getting busy with people waiting for tables, you’re fine. You are probably the most low-maintenance customer possible. Heck, I was always happy when my fellow introverts felt comfortable in my service and respected them by not engaging in small talk 😁.
