Also Telegram is growing shadier day by day. Signal is the way to go.
Quite possibly a luddite.

If you don’t have any luck dumpster diving it might be worth checking if any of your local supermarkets (or even bakeries) are using Too Good to Go. They decide how much to put in the package, but a generous place will give you a bunch of food for very little money.
A worthy cause - keep it up!
The Simpsons gig is of course beautifully referenced to in Banksy’s couch gag.
A fun industry fact: Have A Cigar was sung by Roy Harper, as he happened to be in the studio and the members of Floyd thought he could be a good fit. Roy Harper is perhaps more known in the mainstream through the Zeppelin song Hats Off to (Roy) Harper than through his own recordings, though he’s still alive and active.
Harper didn’t feel like he was appropriately compensated for his work on Have a Cigar, which is ironic considering the overall thematic.
Gillian Welsh - Everything is Free.
Great song about the difficulties of making a living off music now that everything is available for nothing. Father John Misty recorded a version when he was invited to the Spotify Sessions, which was a nice little fuck you to the people inviting him.
Indeed, thanks!
It should certainly spice up performances of John Cage’s As Slow as (legally) Possible.
I’m sure you’re aware of it already, but WineHQ provides a good overview over which software runs well under WINE. :)
You go to @potus and follow him from there. :)
What a sad faith for a website named after the glorious Dodo.
As genocide per definition requires internt, the argument that “whoops, it was an accident!” might actually hold up in court.
Of course it is not an accident, and central authorities (Netanyahu and his fascists) know exactly what they’re doing. But this is what they’re betting on, and time will tell if it works out for them.
The genocide convention and the state of Israel were brothers in birth, both being responses to the atrocities of the Holocaust. This time around they will be reunited as enemies.
But Twitter used to have a monopoly, and it doesn’t any more.
I can now follow an official white house account directly from Kbin, whereas yesterday i would have had to sign up for either Twitter or Threads. That makes a difference. :)
Having pigs in the forest - to be hiding something.
The tax man would go from farm to farm back in the old days and count the number of pigs. The farmers would be taxed accordingly. Naturally, when you heard the tax man was coming, you’d send some pigs into the forest so that you’d be taxed less. Norwegian. :)
Never noticed 𓂺 before. Impressive.
I was listening to BBC World Report this morning. They made quick mention of it along with some other things happening in the conflict, then went on to introduce their “expert” who would illuminate the situation.
Their so called expert was an employee of some Israeli institute of security or whatever, and he talked on for ages with minimal push-back about how the israeli army is doing everything by the book and how “Gaza is safe for civilians, and if it’s not it’s the fault of Hamas”.
That was all the coverage they did.
What a fucking joke.
I’m in the process of finishing up my PhD in Italy and moving somewhere much less pleasant where pay is much better. So I guess it’s rather the opposite in my case: Had money not been an issue I would have stayed where I am.
Yeah, there’s ways around it for sure, so it’s not the end of the world.
I’m not super technical though, so as my hosting provider uses Google for HTTPS authentication I’ll just reluctantly stick with that for now. Of course I could have found a different provider, but I found it a somewhat difficult market to navigate. I’m enough of a rookie that part of me is just happy things seem to be working - when I set up the website a few months ago I kind of assumed HTTPS was some black magic stuff that I would never manage to implement.
And http still works in any browser I know of.
I kind of get your frustration though. I set up my personal website precisely to get away from big platforms; yet my HTTPS is validated by Google. It feels like a defeat still having them involved in the process.
Yeah, the zoomers I know who make an effort with regards to fashion all dress in a very fun way. I dig it.
If I’m upset by it it’s just because young people are not wearing the same clothes as me and more, implying that I’m getting old. It stings a little.
